In the early 2000s, she worker on Molecular phylogeny and biogeography of Melaeuca, Callistemon and related genera (Myrtaceae).
This was followed by research on the genus Rhododendron in Indonesia.
In 1992 she became the ninth Director of the Queensland Herbarium and the first woman appointed to the position since the herbarium opened in 1859.
