Joe McAuliffe started with the Australian National Botanic Gardens in 1991.
For much of his employment with the ANBG he occupied the role of Nursery Manager.
During his career, Joe also worked for Parks Australia in places that included Christmas Island National Park, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Booderee Botanic Gardens.
Joe has a passion for botany and Australian flora. His work as a conservation practitioner, horticulturist and collector of plants for the ANBG, resulted in him lodging thousands of vouchered scientific collections for the ANBG, National Seed Bank, Australian National Herbarium and other Australian herbaria.
As part of this work, Joe contributed a significant number of images to the ANBG's 'Australian Plant Photographic Index', APII.
Joe retired from the Australian National Botanic Gardens on 24 October 2024.
His plant collections and photographs are under the name 'McAuliffe, J.'
