He was appointed to the Public Service of New South Wales on 19 February 1913. He held the position of Assistant Forester from 13 December 1915 and was successively at Wee Waa, Narrabri, Gunnedah and Glen Innes. He was promoted to Senior Forester on 1 September 1925 and resigned front the Public Service on 29 October 1930.
He is honoured in the name Eucalyptus taylorii Maiden (1924), and was also collector of the type.
