This is the only Australian native plant in a series of 2 'Phillip Island Landscapes' stamps. The stamp shows Phillip Island as viewed from Norfolk Island.

Plant: Araucaria heterophylla

Family: ARAUCARIACEAE

Common-name: Norfolk Island Pine

The genus Araucaria contains three species in Australia and about 18 species world-wide.
The Norfolk Island pine was originally confined to the small Australian island of Norfolk Island, east of Brisbane and north of New Zealand.
It has been widely planted in coastal areas in the rest of Australia and elsewhere due to its tolerance to salt spray and other extremes of the shoreline environment.
